We had an opportunity to try the Best Day Ever hot sauce from Barbara Mojo. Barbaro Mojo is a Miami-based hot sauce maker that uses the traditional Cuban mojo sauce ingredients as inspiration for many of its sauces.
The Best Day Ever sauce is made from Mango, Tomatoes, Habanero Peppers, Onions, Distilled Vinegar, Yellow Bell Peppers, Mojo Criollo (water, salt, orange juice concentrate, lemon juice concentrate, garlic, onions, spices, sugar, potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate (as preservatives), Garlic, Salt, Carolina Reaper Peppers, Spices.
Overall the sauce has a savory smell, with upfront tomato, onion, and bell pepper. Missing from the smell is any mango, or fruitiness. It doesn't have a strong fragrance of spicy pepper, event though the ingredients list a relatively high amount of habanero and a hint of Carolina Reaper.
The sauce has a nice consistency, not too runny or too thick. It does, however, have seeds present. Personally, we're not fans of seeds in our sauces, since they can add a bitter note, and unexpected crunch.
The overall flavor of the sauce is savory, with some sweetness that seems to come more from the bell peppers rather than the mango. There's no fruity notes, which would be expected when the first ingredient is a sweet fruit like mango. The majority of the flavor comes from the tomatoes, bell peppers, garlic, and onion.
The Best Day Ever sauce is a solid sauce that would be a decent table sauce for everyday use. It's has a relatively low heat, which makes it approachable for a wider audience. Overall it tastes like a pretty standard habanero sauce, without much to separate it from other sauces.
